Our Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology (MSDO) Mohs Fellowship Program at Atlantic Dermatology, an affiliate of Anne Arundel Dermatology, in association with our sponsoring institution-Campbell University, stands at the forefront of dermatologic surgery. What is the MSDO Mohs Fellowship?
Our MSDO Mohs Fellowship, under the expert guidance of the program director, Dr. Rene Bermudez, a board-certified dermatologist, board-certified Mohs surgeon, and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon, is an ACGME-accredited program that provides fellows with intensive, hands-on training in the field of dermatologic surgery. This prestigious fellowship equips fellows with the skills and knowledge needed to become leaders in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology. Comprehensive Clinical Experience
The fellow gains extensive hands-on experience in Mohs Micrographic Surgery, a precise technique used to remove skin cancers while preserving healthy tissue. They are involved in all aspects of patient care, from initial diagnosis to post-operative follow-up, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of the entire treatment process.
Advanced Surgical Training
The fellow learns and masters the latest techniques in dermatologic surgery, gaining proficiency in both simple and complex surgical cases. The fellowship emphasizes both technical skills and the art of patient-centered care, preparing fellows to handle diverse clinical scenarios with expertise.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Fellow works alongside experts in various specialties, including cosmetic and laser surgery, oculoplastic, maxillofacial and plastic surgery, surgical oncology, dermatopathology, and radiation oncology. This interdisciplinary approach enhances their understanding of integrated care and provides a holistic perspective on patient treatment.
Rigorous Academic Schedule
The fellow engages in a rigorous academic program specifically designed to prepare them for board certification in Mohs surgery and to achieve fellowship status with the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS). This comprehensive schedule includes extensive textbook-based coursework covering advanced dermatologic principles, detailed case studies, and hands-on training sessions. Additionally, the fellow participates in targeted preparatory journal clubs, lectures, surgical conferences and grand rounds that focus on exam preparation and clinical competencies. This structured approach ensures that the fellow is thoroughly equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary for successful certification and accreditation.

George Escaravage MD, FACS
Oculoplastic Surgery
George Escaravage, MD, FACS, a board-certified ophthalmologist and ASOPRS fellowship-trained oculoplastic surgeon, is a valuable member of our faculty. He is renowned for his expertise in reconstruction and procedures involving the eyes, eyelids, and surrounding areas. Dr. Escaravage has specialized training in managing complex conditions affecting the eyelids, tear drainage system, and eye socket, providing exceptional care for patients of all ages with corrective, reconstructive, and cosmetic needs related to the eyes. Each year, only approximately 25 surgeons in the United States are selected for this highly specialized ASOPRS fellowship training, underscoring the elite nature of his qualifications.

Michael Jaskolka, MD/DDS
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Michael Jaskolka, MD DDS FACS, a board-certified Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon with additional training in Cleft and Craniofacial Surgery, is an esteemed member of our faculty. Dr. Jaskolka excels in complex reconstructive surgeries aimed at restoring both function and appearance. He manages a diverse array of patients requiring head and neck reconstruction secondary to congenital anomalies, trauma, and pathology.
The fellow gains invaluable experience working alongside Dr. Jaskolka as he provides post-Mohs facial reconstruction. In addition to Mohs reconstruction, Dr. Jaskolka focuses on Cleft Lip & Palate Surgery, Craniofacial Surgery, Orthognathic (“jaw”) Surgery, and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery. He completed his medical education at UNC-Chapel Hill, School of Medicine in 2005, followed by a General Surgery Internship at University of North Carolina Hospitals in 2007. He completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UNC and went on to further specialize with a fellowship in Cleft and Craniofacial Surgery at the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. His extensive expertise provides the fellow with comprehensive training and exposure to advanced techniques in reconstructive surgery, significantly enhancing their skills in managing complex surgical cases.
Greg Bebb, MD, FACS
Surgical Oncology
Our Mohs Surgery Fellowship benefits greatly from the unparalleled expertise of Dr. Bebb, a distinguished leader in surgical oncology with a particular focus on malignant melanoma. Dr. Bebb completed a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the City of Hope National Medical Center and his residency in General Surgery at the University of Arizona Medical Center and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College and is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery. As a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and an active member of the Society of Surgical Oncology and the American Society of Breast Surgeons, Dr. Bebb’s extensive experience and leadership are invaluable to our program. His role as President of Wilmington Surgical Associates and Director of the Breast Center at Wilmington Surgical Associates highlights his dedication to advancing cancer care.
Under his guidance, our fellow receives exceptional training and insights into the latest advancements in malignant melanoma surgery, ensuring our fellows receive top-tier education and practical experience in this critical field.
Muammar Arida, MD
Dermatopathology
Our fellow is significantly enriched by the opportunity to work closely with Dr. Arida, an expert in dermatopathology. Dr. Arida is board-certified by the American Board of Pathology in Dermatopathology and Pathology, reflecting his deep expertise in diagnosing and managing complex dermatologic conditions. His extensive education includes training at Damascus University and advanced residencies and fellowships at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Arida’s expertise in dermatopathology is invaluable to our fellow, providing critical insights into the intricate relationship between Mohs Surgery and Dermatopathology. The fellow works one-on-one with Dr. Arida focusing on dermatopathology as it pertains specifically to Mohs Surgery. In these regularly scheduled sessions, common as well as rare skin tumors are reviewed.
Brian Cook, MD
Radiation Oncology
Our fellowship is profoundly enhanced by the expertise of Dr. Brian Cook, a leading specialist in radiation oncology. We are fortunate to have him on the faculty of our program. Dr. Cook’s impressive credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Duke University and his medical degree from the University of Texas Houston Medical School. His rigorous training encompasses an internship in Internal Medicine at the same institution and a residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of Alabama School of Medicine.
Dr. Cook’s extensive background in radiation oncology is crucial for our fellows, offering them a comprehensive understanding of how radiation therapy integrates with surgical approaches in treating skin cancers. His expertise and collaboration ensure that our fellows gain a well-rounded perspective on multimodal cancer treatment strategies, equipping them with the expertise to provide holistic patient care.
Courtney Martin, RN
Program Coordinator
Our fellowship thrives thanks to the outstanding efforts of our Program Coordinator Courtney Martin RN. Her role is vital to the success of our program. From coordinating schedules and managing daily operations to facilitating interactions between fellows and faculty, Courtney ensures that every aspect of the fellowship runs smoothly. Her meticulousness and expertise in organizing educational activities, overseeing administrative tasks, and providing personalized support create an environment where fellows can focus entirely on their training. Courtney’s dedication and attention to detail are key in maintaining the high standards of our fellowship, ensuring that each fellow receives a well-rounded, smooth, and enriching educational experience.
Outside of dermatology, she enjoys hiking, painting, exploring Wilmington’s food scene, riding on her dad’s fishing boat, and walking her dog, Kiwi.
The Role of Our MDSO Mohs Fellow
MSDO Mohs Fellow plays a crucial role in our multidisciplinary team. Their responsibilities include:
- Performing Mohs Micrographic Surgery: They are directly involved in the surgical treatment of skin cancers using the Mohs technique, which ensures the complete removal of cancerous cells while preserving healthy tissue.
- Collaborating with Specialists: Work alongside our experts in cosmetic surgery, oculoplastics, and other specialties to provide comprehensive care and coordinate treatment plans.
- Patient Interaction: Engage with patients to explain procedures, answer questions, and support them through their treatment journey.
