What is a dermatology resident physician?
A dermatology resident physician is a licensed physician that is training to become a dermatologist. A dermatology resident has completed four years of pre-medical undergraduate studies, four years of medical school, one year of medical internship in the hospital, and passed a rigorous 3-step board examination. They are licensed to practice medicine and surgery under direct or indirect supervision by a fully licensed dermatologist.
Atlantic Dermatology is proud to be the primary training location for the Campbell University/Sampson Regional Medical Center Dermatology Residency Program. Our program is a fully accredited 3-year training program approved by the Accreditation Counsel for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Campbell University joins Duke University, the University of North Carolina, and Wake Forest, as one of four training programs in the state of North Carolina.
Under the direction of Jonathan Crane, DO, FAAD, FAOCD, our residents are selected from the top of their medical school classes. After the completion of an initial year of residency training, our residents enter to receive comprehensive training in medical dermatology, cosmetic dermatology, and Mohs surgery. In addition to caring for patients in the clinic and in the hospital, our residents participate in a rigorous didactics curriculum, attend several national dermatology conferences each year, and publish cutting-edge research in the field of dermatology. Upon successful completion of this training program, candidates are eligible for board certification by the American Board of Dermatology (ABD). Our past graduates currently boast a 100% pass rate on ABD Certification Examination.
